Halloween is almost here! An evening of fun, mischief and treats, it’s a time for little ones to dress up, have fun and explore their spooky side. Whether you’re hosting a lavish party or simply gathering the family for a celebration, it’s important your living room looks the part. Here’s exactly how you can get your living room ready for Halloween.

1. Spooky ghosts and paper bats

Nothing says Halloween quite like a flying collection of bats and ghosts. By making multiple wall decorations out of black paper, you can create a real flow in your space. Plus, the flexibility of the paper means you can contort your creations and make it look as if they’re taking off or ready to swoop on unsuspecting victims.

2. Fun floating cheesecloth ghosts

Looking for a DIY living room décor project that the kids or grandkids can get involved with? Fun floating cheesecloth ghosts are the perfect solution.

To make these fun creations, start by blowing up a balloon and putting it in a cup. If you want a long and trailing ghost, then stack the cups on something tall. Then, lay cheesecloth over your balloon setup. To make it look like your ghost is flying, lay the excess cheesecloth behind.

Now, spray your creation with stiffening spray. Just so you know, it’s best to do this outside or on a covered surface. After an hour, your ghost is ready to go, so you can remove the balloon and cup. If you like, you can add eyes and a mouth to your finished creation.

These gorgeous ghouls look great on the mantelpiece, on a table top or as an inviting centrepiece.

3. Upcycled Halloween books

Feature coffee table books are still a key design trend – so why not get yours ready for the Halloween season? By simply changing the jackets, you can create a Halloween-themed masterpiece that immediately grabs the attention of your guests. Any ghastly or ghoulish titles work well, so ask your kids to be creative. Alternatively, take some ideas from Harry Potter and create your own books of spells and potions.

4. Embroidery spider web hoops

With a little love and imagination, embroidery hoops can be transformed into haunting Halloween decorations. Transforming your embroidery hoops into spider webs is simple and effective. All you’ll need is your hoops, some tape, grey, black or white yarn and some pipe cleaners (for making the spiders). When hung on the wall, these will create a devastating effect that will enthral your guests.
