After a lovely few days of gorgeous sunshine here in the North West of England, it’s got us thinking about how we get our home summer ready.

It seems like we spend most of the year trying to make our homes feel as cosy as possible but as it starts to warm up, our beloved throws and rugs become almost unsightly.

But no matter how warm and cosy you like your home during the cooler months, there are ways to make transitioning to the warmer weather easier.

Here are our top 4 tips on how to prepare your home for sunshine weather:

  1. Refresh your colour palette

To make your space feel brighter and more airy, introduce pale tones in your furniture and bedding.

The pale colours reflect and amplify the light so you don’t feel such a sharp contrast between outdoors and indoors.

We all know how difficult trying to sleep when it's too hot is so it's important to keep your bedroom feeling cool and airy.

The Devon Bedroom range has a lightly distressed pale coloured paint finish that’s perfect for summer but will look good all year round.

  1. Hide heavyweight furnishings and clothing

You know you aren’t going to be using your winter coat or fluffy bed throw any time soon, so why have them lying around?

A dedicated storage space for your unseasonal clothing and soft furnishings will make it much easier to get your home ready for summer.

The perfect solution is an ottoman bed base like this Tempur Options Arc Ottoman because it doesn’t take up any extra floor space and there’s plenty of room for bulky things like heavy winter duvets. Come winter, the space can be used for storing things like outdoor seat cushions and beach towels.

  1. Candlelit dinners… outside

Lighting a candle indoors doesn’t have quite the same appeal on a summer’s evening, so why not take your candles outdoors with you instead? A couple of glowing lanterns help to set the mood for alfresco dining. All you need now is a wine cooler and someone willing to tend to the BBQ.

  1. Bring the Outdoors in

If you aren’t able to spend as much time as you’d like outdoors this summer, bring a little bit of the outside in with house plants. If you place a couple of smaller plants on a windowsill, it  creates the illusion of a garden outside

We hope these tips will help you to get your home summer ready. Let us know if you've tried any for yourself or if you've got any of your own summer transition tips to share!
